8 Best Day Trips from Agadir by Car

Agadir is a great base, but the real magic of the Souss-Massa region starts when you have your own car. No tour buses, no waiting for taxis — just you, the coast road and the mountains. Here are our favourite day trips from Agadir.

1. Taghazout — Morocco’s surf capital

About 45 minutes up the coast from the airport, Taghazout is a relaxed fishing village turned surf town. Check the waves at Anchor Point at dawn, have lunch on a rooftop, and stay for sunset.

2. Tamraght and Banana Beach

Just before Taghazout, Tamraght is loved by surfers, yogis and digital nomads. Banana Beach is a beginner-friendly surf spot with cafés right on the sand.

3. Paradise Valley

Around an hour from Agadir, this palm-lined gorge in the Atlas foothills is full of turquoise rock pools. Go early to beat the tour groups and swim in peace — it is only comfortably reachable by car.

4. Imsouane

The scenic coastal drive of about 90 minutes is a highlight in itself. Imsouane is home to one of Africa’s longest waves and some of the best grilled sardines on the coast.

5. Souss-Massa National Park

South of Agadir, this protected coastline of dunes, estuaries and wild beaches is a paradise for birdwatchers and walkers. Bring water and sturdy shoes.

6. Taroudant

Often called “little Marrakech”, Taroudant is a walled market town inland from Agadir. Walk the ramparts, explore the souks and enjoy a far calmer pace than the big cities.

7. Tiznit

Famous for its silver jewellery and ochre walls, Tiznit makes an easy day out to the south. Combine it with the coast on the way back for a full day.

8. Essaouira

A longer trip, but worth it: the whitewashed, windswept port town of Essaouira is a UNESCO World Heritage medina. Start early and consider staying the night.

Tips for your road trip

  • Leave early — roads are quieter and the light is better
  • Carry cash for fuel, parking attendants and lunch
  • Download offline maps before you go
  • Take water and snacks for Paradise Valley and the national park
